Let me paint you a picture. You buy a swimsuit that looks uh-mazing on Instagram. Shiny, colourful, flirty. You wear it once, maybe twice.
And then bam. It starts to sag, pill, fade, or just feel weird on your skin. Sound familiar?
When I started Timala, I was tired of that cycle. I didn’t want “vacation-only” swimwear that dies after two dips in a chlorinated pool. I wanted real pieces that could handle Indian summers, beach getaways, laps in a pool, and still make you feel damn good in your skin. But, building that meant one thing: going deep into fabrics.
What I Learned From Testing (Too) Many Fabrics
Before we finalised the fabrics for Timala, I went through so many samples it felt like a part-time job—because it kind of was.
I tried shiny fashion swimwear fabrics that stretched too thin. I tested buttery-soft nylon that lost its shape. I wore them wet, sun-dried them, pool-tested them, and even worked out in them.
Some felt great but aged fast. Others held up, but felt scratchy or stiff. Eventually, I settled on a blend of high-performance fabrics, each one carefully selected based on the cut, purpose, and aesthetic of the piece.
So What Fabrics Do We Use at Timala?
Here’s the real breakdown. Not one-size-fits-all, but carefully chosen for performance and comfort:
RT-4101 REPREVE® Fabric
- 82% Repreve® Recycled Polyester / 18% Spandex
- 190 GSM
- Made from recycled plastic bottles
- Soft, stretchy, durable—and yes, eco-conscious
Used in our monokinis, this is our hero fabric: strong, sustainable, chlorine-resistant, with UV protection and 4-way stretch. It retains its colour, shape, and structure from season to season.
Polyester-Spandex Blends
- 82% Polyester / 18% Spandex (190 GSM)
- Some with 92% Polyester / 8% Elastane
- These are your pool-friendly, activewear-level fabrics.
- Chlorine resistance and shape retention = excellent.
These pieces are ideal for swimmers, pool loungers, and hot weather wear. They don’t fade fast, and they move with your body.
Polyamide-Spandex Blends
- 80–82% Polyamide / 18–20% Spandex
- Feels soft and luxe (hello, buttery finish)
- Slightly more delicate but amazing for that sleek, sculpted look
These are often used in our style-forward bikinis and lounging pieces. Still 4-way stretch, still secure—but chosen for the feel-good factor too.
Ribbed Fabric
- 85% Nylon / 15% Spandex
- Adds texture + structure
- 4-way stretch and thicker feel
- Super flattering on curves, gives coverage without compromise
We use this for timeless one-pieces that feel both elevated and secure. You’ll notice it when you want something a little different, but still ultra-comfy.
All Our Fabrics Offer This, No Compromise:
- 4-Way Stretch – They move with you, not against you
- Chlorine Resistance – Perfect for pools, not just beaches
- UV Protection (UPF 50+) – For your skin, and your swimwear’s colour
- Soft + Durable – Because beauty shouldn’t come at the cost of comfort
- Quick Drying – Who wants to sit around with soggy clothes?
And the Secret Sauce? Adjustability.
Let’s be honest: our bodies aren’t one size. They shift and change.
That’s why almost every piece in the Timala range includes:
- Adjustable straps (we’re not all the same height, and that’s the point)
- Back hooks or tie-ups (so you can control the support)
- Coverage you can tweak—because some days you want cheeky, some days you don’t.
We tested real women of all shapes and sizes. We asked: Does it ride up? Does it hold? Do you feel safe when you move?
And that feedback shaped every pattern and panel.
Nylon vs Polyester: The Showdown (with Real Talk)
Let’s stop pretending all swimwear fabric is created equal.
| Feature | Cheap Nylon Blends | Timala Polyester & Repreve |

So while shiny nylon suits might look great for a pool party—they’re often not built for real-world wear. Our goal is to look good, feel good, and stay good.
Final Word: You Deserve Swimwear That Works as Hard as You Do
I didn’t make Timala for runways or one-time holidays. I made it for you—the women who swim, move, stretch, grow, travel, sweat, chill, and do it all in their bodies, proudly.
So next time you shop, ask more than just “Does this look cute?”
Ask:
- Does it stretch well?
- Will it last beyond one trip?
- Can I adjust it to fit me?
- Is it chlorine-resistant?
- Does it protect my skin from the sun?
If the answer is no, maybe it’s time to switch to swimwear that actually fits you.
